UMOA-Titres WAEMU Sponsor at Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Africa 2020

UMOA-Titres WAEMU Sponsor at Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Africa 2020

From November 24 to 25, 2020, UMOA-Titres is a WAEMU Sponsor at the world’s largest virtual pan-African debt event.

As the continent adjusts to the new normal, this online event will connect over 700 leading government officials, regulators, investors, bankers and corporates from Africa’s capital markets community and feature over 80 expert speakers.

It will bring public and private buyers and sellers together to conduct business and shape future financing strategies; enable you to initiate an unlimited number of new business connections via the networking directory; deliver behind-the-scenes market insights from African finance leaders who will answer your questions; and provide a bird’s eye view of the pan-African market for the local and international community.

As in the previous years, UMOA-Titres aims to achieve four (04) keys objectives:

  • promote the Government Securities Market,
  • increase investment opportunities in the WAEMU zone,
  • build up credibility for the Government Securities Market as well as for its issuers,
  • Diversify and enlarge the investor base.

Thus, UMOA-Titres is planning to be part of a panel on ” Assessing sovereign debt outlook for 2021: Where are sovereigns looking for funding?” represented by Mr. Adrien DIOUF, Managing Director.

At the program of this panel, the following questions will be unfolded and addressed:

  • How have rating downgrades affected sovereigns’ ability to source funding? What options are now on the table?
  • Hard vs. local currency: How has reliance and availability of USD for sovereigns changed due to COVID-19?
  • Re-engaging the institutional investor appetite into Africa: What do investors need to see from sovereigns to improve their debt sustainability?

This panel will be co-hosted by:

  • Patience Oniha, Head of Debt Management Office, Ministry of Finance, Republic of Nigeria
  • James Mnyupe, Presidential Economic Advisor, Republic of Namibia
  • Dr Joseph Allimany Thullah, Director of Debt Management, Ministry of Finance & Economic Development, Republic of Sierra Leone

Moderated by: Chandi Mwenebungu, Director of Treasury and Markets, Afreximbank

Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Africa 2020: high level networking opportunity

This is a unique event in Africa that brings together more than 700 African sovereigns, corporations, issuers, financial institutions, and service providers to discuss growth perspectives, financing strategies and the greatest challenges facing African capital markets. It is also a singular opportunity to exchange with more than 70 top-quality speakers, all experts in their fields, and to reach a wide coverage of international and continental industry key actors.

In summary, UMOA-Titres has decided once again, as part of its strategy of market promotion and development, to broaden the Government Securities Market’s investor base, by participating to Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Africa 2020. This opportunity will provide strong international exposure for UT and the WAEMU zone. Besides increasing the UT’s credibility towards partners and financial market actors, this event will also be an opportunity for the UT to consolidate its positioning and raise international investors’ interest in the WAEMU zone.
